Cryoskin Vs. CoolSculpting

What Is CoolSculpting?

Many people want to lose fat, but sometimes the traditional methods of fat loss won’t quite do the job.

Most of the time, losing fat should be “hot”, as we exercise to burn our fat and to build muscle. Along with working out, we also should eat healthy foods and limit caloric intake to lose weight.

But not all of us have the time nor the luxury to exercise and/or diet.

Some people resort to surgeries to remove the fat in our bodies. And that can be helpful too, especially for people who find that exercise and diet alone is not as effective as they’d like them to be.

But did you know that there is a “cooler” way to lose fat?

One way to do that is through CoolSculpting. Below you’ll find out what is CoolSculpting along with some of the benefits and risks.

What Is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a type of procedure that removes fat using low temperature. It is a non-surgical and non-invasive procedure approved by the Food and Drug Administration, or FDA.

The FDA approved the use of this procedure for fat removal. It is a form of cryolipolysis, a fat removal procedure that uses freezing temperature to break down fat cells.

But how exactly does it work?  During the course of the procedure, the practitioner, who is usually a dermatologist or an aesthetician, vacuums the skin over the area which needs treatment into an applicator that cools the fat cells.

Many people who undergo the procedure report a cooling sensation. On average, Coolsculpting reduces 20 to 25 percent of fat in the targeted area.

Most of the time, CoolSculpting only takes around 35 minutes to an hour. How long the procedure will take depends on the area that needs to be treated.

After the procedure is completed, the fat will not instantly go away. It will take about 3 to 6 months for you to see its full effect.

Usually, people undergo CoolSculpting on these parts of their bodies:

  • Belly
  • Sides
  • Lower back
  • Thighs

Although this procedure is said to be effective, is it safe?

What Are The Risks Of CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is said to be a safe procedure with minimal complications. As stated earlier, this is a noninvasive and non-surgical procedure which means that the risks associated with surgical and invasive procedures are not to be found during a cryolipolysis.

Risks and complications relating to CoolSculpting and other forms of cryolipolysis are minimal. Risks and complications of CoolSculpting include the following:

  • Pain or aching at the treatment site
  • Temporary irritation leading to:
    • Swelling
    • Temporary skin discoloration
    • Bruising
    • Skin sensitivity
    • Redness
  • Paradoxical adipose hyperplasia (very rare)

People with the following conditions must not undergo this procedure:

  • Cryoglobulinemia
  • Paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria
  • Cold agglutinin disease

According to the Aesthetic Surgery Journal, less than 1 percent of CoolSculpting patients reported complications. Overall, the FDA has deemed CoolSculpting as a safe procedure and many reviews concluded that this procedure is a safe procedure.

So, in summary, CoolSculpting is a form of cryolipolysis, a procedure wherein it uses freezing temperature to eliminate fat cells. This procedure is a safe procedure with minimal risks and has been approved by the FDA.
